On the 10th September 1945 the
Japanese army of occupation surrendered to the Australian 9th Division at Surrender Point, following 3 months of fierce fighting
on the Island at surrender point. following the surrender The Labuan war
cemetery was set up to commemorate the officers and men of the Australian army and
air force
who died in Borneo and the Philippines from 1942-1945.
A memorial service is held annually on the nearest Sunday to the 11th November to commemorate the fallen and many visitors make special arrangements to attend
